Look out, here comes hoodie cat

Our delightful little (well, medium-sized maybe πŸ™‚ ) tabby, Smoky, can be a bit of a handful at times. One thing he has never liked is having his claws clipped. It’s a necessary evil, as if their claws are allowed to get too long they can hurt themselves if the claw gets caught in something.

Shana has done all the right things, such as trying to reassure Smoky at clipping time. And most importantly she bought proper claw clippers. A long time ago we also bought a cat harness, which tended to make Smoky more docile when he wore it. That wasn’t the original intention, but was a useful ‘side-effect’, since it should have made him easier to handle at clipping time. But despite all her efforts, every time Shana has tried to clip Smoky’s claws, she has ended up getting scratched.

And then the harness disappeared.

We searched all the usual places we might have put it, but with no luck. It will probably turn up at some later date. Meanwhile, if you want to be really really annoying, just post a comment asking ‘Where did you sse it last?’ Go on, I dare you πŸ™‚

So Shana forked out a few pennies for a new harness. But this was a bit different. It arrived today, and it’s hot pink with white silhouettes of cat heads above crossed bones. Sort of cat vs pirate, if you will. Oh and it has a little hood. So it’s a hoodie harness.

And today, for the first time, Shana clipped several of Smoky’s claws with no problem at all, so well-behaved was our little tabby monster. Here’s what it looks like. This isn’t actually Smoky wearing it, but he looks quite similar.

I must say, Smoky looked well-suited to such a garment. I’m not sure if I should mention this, but, well, with all those kitty skull symbols and the hood and so on, he did look just a little bit, well..

  1. I love Hoodie cat – he’s awesome! πŸ™‚
Well done with the nail cutting – that’s no easy thing to do, no matter how obliging your cat πŸ™‚
I wish someone would invent something similar to the Hoodie Harness, that would allow me to put the flea and wormer drops we need to use for Kushka – without us ending up battle-scarred!
Kushka will NOT take tablets; always sniffs, then walks away from, any food we put the liquid-by-mouth versions in and, as the last resort, hubby is reduced to wrapping her gently in a towel, as I then desperately try to put the drops between her shoulder blades – before she turns into a virago as soon as the first drop touches her skin!
We’ve used Flea Collars, but that doesn’t help with wormers, which she needs regularly, as she’s an active hunter, no matter how many Dreamies, or other treats, she’s offered as an alternative (and being her total slaves, of course she has the Dreamies, too! Lol).
I’m not sure how she’d react to her own Hoodie Harness, either, and I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to try one πŸ™‚

    1. We gave Smoky worming drops at first, but not only didn’t he like the procedure, it made him poorly too, tried Drontal tablets, they worked for a while, then he got smart and would eat the chicken, then spit the tablet out! And like the drops, it seemed to make him poorly, so I found a natural product, Verm-x (http://www.verm-x.com/product/cats/1/verm-x-for-cats.php), which are given daily as a treat. I cannot say if they do work for worms or not, but he’s not showing any symptoms!
What we slaves put ourselves through for our ‘masters’ is unbelievable LOL!!! πŸ˜€

        1. Chris has just got up and I told him you’d commented and are going to try the Verm-X, he said “But it’s for cats”, I was about to start a long-winded explanation that I meant you were getting it for Kushka when it slowly dawned on me that Chris was attempting humour first thing on a Saturday morning LOL!! πŸ˜€
